FST IP Configuration Tools

Using FSTConfig and FSTListen

Fat Spaniel Technologies Monitoring Equipment is configured to expect a DHCP server on the network on which it resides. If a static IP address is required instead, you can reconfigure the Fat Spaniel Technologies Communication Gateway using the supplied FSTConfig tool. An additional file, FSTListen, will help us troubleshoot if necessary.

Installation Instructions

The FST IP Config Tools package is contained the ZIP file FSTtools.zip.

1        Download and unzip the files into a directory on the hard disk of your PC.  The unzipped files include:

FSTConfig.exe

FSTListen.exe

PCGCI.dll

FSTTools Readme.htm

2        Make sure the PC running FST IP Config Tools is connected to the same local network as the FST Communication Gateway you are configuring:

§         Connect the PC to the same hub or switch as the Communication Gateway

OR

§         Connect the PC directly to the Communication Gateway using a crossover cable between their respective Ethernet ports

Using the FST Config Tools

You may need to configure your firewall to allow these programs to communicate over your local network.

FSTConfig, the FST On-Site Communication Gateway Configuration Tool

This tool allows you to change the network settings on the Communication Gateway device.

How to use FSTConfig

Ø       Double-click FSTConfig.exe and follow the menu.

FSTListen, the FST On-Site Communication Gateway Diagnostic Tool

This tool allows you to see diagnostic messages from the Communication Gateway. These messages may provide useful information, such as whether the device is able to communicate with the FST server.

How to use FSTListen

Since most messages are displayed when the Communication Gateway is first started, do the following:

To start FSTListen

1        Power off the Communication Gateway,

2        Double-click FSTListen.exe,

3        Power on the Communication Gateway.

FSTListen will display all debug messages received from any connected gateway.

To stop FSTListen

§         Type CTRL+C

OR

§         Close the window.

The messages that were displayed will be saved in a file named FSTLog.txt.

Managing the Communication Gateway Device

Three LEDs on front of FST Gateway indicate the functioning status.

How to Interpret the LEDs

§         PWR        Red when connected to power.  If not lit, gateway is not receiving power.

§         Link         Green light flickers continuously when data being transferred.

§         Ready       Green light flickers when gateway first powered on then steadies.  If Ready light flickers continuously, the FST Communication Gateway is configured for DHCP but has not been able to obtain a DHCP address.
